Seasonal Flu Vaccines

woman smiling with male doctor Flu season in the United States begins as early as October and can last well into May. During this critical time, the flu virus is circulating at high levels, and depending on the season, as many as 49,000 people can be infected in the US. This is a serious illness that can lead to hospitalization and even death.

The best way to reduce your risk of getting the flu and contaminating others is to get the seasonal flu vaccine. The flu vaccine helps your body create antibodies that will protect you from infection. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends that everyone six months and older get a flu vaccine every season. Twin Oaks Urgent Care offers flu vaccines every day without an appointment.

Meningitis Vaccine

Bacterial meningitis is a serious, but uncommon disease with many complications.  Newborns, children, and young adults are the most vulnerable. There are vaccines to prevent the most common types of meningitis and it is recommended for most children and adults, depending on individual risk factors. While not 100% effective against the disease, vaccinations have greatly reduced the occurrence of meningitis in the United States.

Tetanus/Diphtheria/Pertussis Vaccination (Tdap) in Friendswood, TX

These are serious diseases, all caused by bacteria. Pertussis and diphtheria are both spread through person-to-person contact, while tetanus enters the body through wounds and cuts.

  • Tetanus causes a tightening of the body’s muscles, and can cause the a person’s jaw to lock so they cannot open their mouth or even swallow.
  • Pertussis causes a chronic cough, often in children and infants. The cough can prevent infants from eating, drinking, and sometimes even breathing. It has been known to cause pneumonia, seizures and sometimes death.
  • Diphtheria is an infection that can lead to a sore throat and fever in mild cases, and a swollen throat that can block airways in more severe cases. It is often characterized by a white or grey patch on the back of the throat.

All of these serious illnesses can be prevented with the Tdap vaccine. Infants and children should get the DTaP vaccine in several doses from their primary care physician. The Tdap vaccineoffered at Twin Oaks Urgent Care is recommended for people from 11 to 64 years of age.

Testimonials

Read What Our Clients Say

  • "Absolutely no wait. I loved the doctor. She was very professional and also called in my prescriptions so they would be ready for me quickly. The staff is very nice and efficient. They even stayed a little late to fit me in because the RediClinic at HEB wouldn't fit me in. I sat at the RediClinic for 20 minutes trying to find somewhere else to go while the nurse practitioner there sat on the computer alone, not seeing a patient. That was actually a huge blessing. My copay is more to go here, but it was worth EVERY penny!"

  • "Nice place . Glad they are open on Sunday"
